THEY ARE BLUE!

I am indeed the owner of a brand new groovy pair of "Victoria Blue" Converse low top shoes!

They are my new "Adventure Shoes".

If you click on THIS LINK it will take you to a post I did in April of 2010 about another pair of Converse shoes of mine.

Well back to the new ones... They are just so wonderfully blue! I think blue will be the new lime green ;)

When before I stepped into the store I had the intention of buying orange high tops.

But as you may have guessed they didn't have any :(

I think Emma's style of photography is rubbing off on me...

Okay so now that I've got a new pair I thought I would show you my extensive

collection of amazing Converse...

The pair with the green laces are my "knock off" pair so they don't count.

Now after some extensive research I found something very interesting...

In the last 3 1/2 years I have acquired four pairs of "real" Converse and the cost adds

up to a grad total of about $120.00.

Here are the famous green shoes... they are completely thrashed.

They are being retired only to be brought out when I need "adventure" shoes

but mud will also be present.

Oh and while we where at the store I found this awesome pair of "Gothic Grape"

They are Emma's new "Adventure Shoes"

So be on the look out for a new video featuring our new shoes!

The Night Ride...

Well its been a while! But I'm back with yet another "Horsie Post" try to stay with me. I will try to make this more interesting... Enjoy!

So as the title suggests this all happened at around 8:00 PM Monday night.
I would like to break now for a lovely quote from my Mom's blog... "While we were visiting by the fire the girls got the horses out to ride for a while. We had quite a scare when Liberty bolted with Emily on her back - Emily is a very good rider but she bailed off into some bushes. After chasing her down, Lindsay and Rachel were getting the saddles off etc, when Liberty bolted again and ended up across a busy road nearby. She apparently went back and forth across this highway several times before she got tired and let Lindsay who was riding Sandy bareback catch her. We are thankful that she was not hit by a vehicle!"

I will now give you the entire story and start from the beginning.
Libby bolted and I, having already taken Sandy's saddle off, jumped onto Sandy bareback and dashed heroically off to retrieve her... then after some cunning and bravery on my part, and that of my faithful steed, I nearly succeeded in capturing the renegade pony. However said pony is very smart and evaded capture as she made for the nearest highway!

I will now pause for a moment before I continue in my tale for a brief moment of reality... This highway is very busy! As we got closer there where trucks and various other large vehicles zooming past! Many a neighbor's dog has fallen crossing that fateful road... I will now resume my story...

The entire ride thus far was taken up with me begging God to cause Renegade to repent of her evil ways and turn home. However by the time we had trotted the 1/4 mile to the highway no cars could be seen on the road. I and my faithful steed therefore continued our pursuit of the pony down a very steep driveway on the other side of the road. Only to find many wrecked cars and the sort of place only the most heroic of knights would dare venture! I urged my steed into a faster pace as we closed the gap between us and the renegade pony. Only to be defeated by a rather large shrub of unusual kind. As the pony stopped to survey her new surroundings, by the said shrub, I cunningly slid from my horses back and crept stealth-fully towards the unsuspecting renegade.

Another reality check... Libby was trying to eat the shrub. I was trying to avoid being shot by any of the many rednecks who live near by and at the same time follow the renegade pony and catch her by the reins.

OK and back again.... I cunningly slid from my horses back and crept stealth-fully towards the unsuspecting renegade.... She caught sight of me just in time to dash to one side leaving me defeated by the shrub... I was now in a land of hills, going up and down, but always more up then down. I pursued that wee horse through brier, wood, and field until at last we reached the highway again... now by this time my faithful charger was growing tired and weary of hoof. I was leading her by trails only the best woodsman or ranger could find and still the renegade evaded us. Yet due to her great girth and weight she was indeed very easy to track. As we neared the highway I observed two cars traveling in opposite directions upon this busy road.

OK so now I'm going to rate this post at PG-13 you have been warned!

The cars continued one there paths. Libby dashed out into the street. I, for I was sure she was going to collide with the car, squinted and turned away only to hear the squealing of tires. The driver was able to stop the vehicle a mere 8 feet from Libby! Libby then continued her journey to the other side of the highway...
At this point I crossed the road and remounted my steed. And nearly succeeded in cornering her only to have her dash between two shrubs and bolt down the mountain side! I urged my mare to follow her and as we reached the base on the mountain I saw the Renegade dashing across the highway again!

This highway stuff is getting old... someone tell this writer to just dump the highway! How many times can a munchkin horse nearly die on that road?! And to that I'm going to say... Just let me finish! We are about two thirds or more into this! Just be patient! You should be glad this is one of the longest posts I have ever done and only two months between posts! So....

Now as the renegade pony crossed the highway, for the third time that night, she made for a small lane. It was unfortunately a very steep, rocky lane and she slid for about ten feet before safely reaching the bottom of it. My steed was about to bravely plunge down the lane when I spotted a green sward along the side and made for it. My horse was very thankful and was able to close the gap quite quickly. As we came up along side the pony she knew that we would take her back and lock her in a pen where she would never be able to have what her heart has always longed for... to be a wild mustang on the western plains and feel the wind in her face! She then decided that the only chance of escape was to start galloping across an open lawn. We gave chase and soon caught up to her and caused her to changed course and traverse a well worn trail behind a small residence and back around the front. Twice we traversed the same trail and twice she barely escaped my grasp.
We then followed her down the lane again and just when I was resigned to riding through the night chasing her, wondering how far we could travel in one night, the renegade slowed and so I, in my cunning way, slipped to one side of my charger and grasped the reins of Libby.
She was caught! I then had to contrive a way of getting her home without further harm. So after a few moments I decided that I would grace Libby's head with the use of my faithful chargers halter and use Libby's reins on Sandy's bridle. Now I know from my many travels that there is a beast that lives in the field next to where we stopped. My steed in not afraid of anything except maybe this beast. However she was the bravest of brave and did not blink at anything beast or otherwise until we where ready to leave.

It was at this point in my adventure that I remounted my mare, turned for home, and started off. Now as we where walking back up to the highway I saw a small truck turn down the lane. It appeared to be of the same make and model as my father's truck. It was indeed my father's truck! Emma, Kay, and Rachel had found us! they then escorted us home to Creek-Side Cottage.

And that concludes my amazing, crazy, night ride. Libby and Sandy safe in the pasture and all is right with the world.

The Show

Saturday was great! We had alot of fun just hanging out and riding.
Our friends the Westbrooks came and Rosie and Grace rode their ponies.

The first two "classes" where Gamblers Choice and High Jump. In Gamblers Choice is where you get 1-2 minutes to jump as many jumps as you can and each jump has a point value the person with the most points wins. High Jump is where they have one jump and they raise it untill either your horse refuses or nocks a pole down. Rachel and I didn't do either of these classes.

Third was called "Keyhole" basically the have a small box(made up of traffic cones) and you have to ride down into the box turn around and ride back. If you go outside the box you get a "no time" and are disqualified.
I was hoping to win or place high in this event but Sandy wouldn't go faster then a medium canter! However I ended up with 4th place and a time of 18.2 seconds so I can't complain. Rachel had a similar problem with Liberty. You are going to hate this but Rachel didn't write her times or what classes on the back of the ribbon so we don't remember if she got a ribbon or not.

Next was "Pole Bending". In this you have 6 poles set in a straight line down the middle of the arena and they are spaced 21 feet apart. then you have to run down to the last pole go around it and weave down through them and back up then run straight back. Well this even started out horribly but I managed to weave through the pole cantering so that saved a lot of time and then galloped back to the start line. I ended up with 6th and a time of 36.3 seconds, 3 seconds slower then last year :( Rachel I believe placed in this one but again I'm not sure.

Then it was 50 yard dash. It's easy to describe. Basically you have one barrel and you race down around it and back. No ribbons :( But it was fun! And I learned some valuable things from it.

Rachel and Libby(Aka Liberty) Starting out for the Pole Bending

Sixth was Barrel Racing! One of my favorites! I find it easiest to explain by showing a picture of this pattern.

The only thing I do differently is I start with the barrel on the left so I only have to make one left turn.

As I said before I was having trouble with Sandy not galloping so Mrs. Westbrook offered the use of their Dressage whip. So off I go and what does Sandy do? She runs it with a time of 23.1! Now that might sound slow and well it is depending on the course. The closest time to our at that time was a 26.6 (I might be wrong about the .6 part. But it was a 26) So Sandy and I had 1st until the insane horse came and got a 22.8! Well we got second! And for the rest of the day guess who decided to gallop?
Now I feel like I've not said enough about how great Rachel and Liberty did. Liberty was so calm the entire day and as it was her first show I was impressed. Now she may be over wheight but she can move! She barreled ;) around the course and ended up with 4th and I believe the time was something like 31 or 32 seconds.

Ok so next was "speed ball".For this event they take the last barrel from the Barrel Racing and place a bucket-like container on the top of it. Then they hand you a tennis ball and you have to race down around the barrel and place, drop or throw the ball into the container. If you drop the ball, nock the barrel over or otherwise don't get the ball into the container you are disqualified.

If you look closely at the picture you can see the container on the barrel. The picture is at an odd angle because it was much farther to the barrel than it looks.
Now comes the part where I boast about the 2nd place a got and complain about the crazy horse who once again smashed my dreams of a lovely blue ribbon. Rachel got 4th in this event and beat the Westbrook girls. It was a theme in about 3 of the events where the three of them would finish 4,5,6 or something like that and so far Rachie, while she enjoyed herself, found her self at the end of the lineup and never it seemed infront of her friends.

Now we get to the bit of the show where they anounced the Champion and Reserve Champion for both the Speed division and the Fun division. Now Much to my great supprise I was anounced Reserve Champion of the Speed division! I am used to being the low rider of the show and rarely making it past a few ribbons of varying places and so therefore never a contender for the Championship.

After that we did Egg & Spoon where, as you may have guessed, you have to ride around the ring while holding a raw egg on a plastic spoon.
Last year Sandy and I managed to take first but alas this year was our year for seconds... Not that I'm complaining! Poor Rachel unfortunately didn't get very far as Libby has a very bumpy pony trot. It was her downfall in the next event too.

And last but not least was the infamouse Dollar Bareback BYOD (bring your own dollar). Last time I competed in this event I ended up with Sandy galloping around the arena and then depositing me into a pile of... lets just say... horse "stuff"... Not fun. But this time I ended up being in the top 5-6. Like I said before poor Rachel... Libby is just not a good dollar bareback or egg and spoon kind of pony. But as it is called a fun show we can truely say we had fun.

Well I hope you enjoyed this horribly boring and long post. I'm sorry about the lack of photos but I was riding most of the time and the few I have are..."borrowed" from my mom's blog....

Rachel and Libby

Saturday is our first show! YAY! Rachie and I have been cleaning tack and organizing the tack area of our basement tonight. Tomorrow we have a day of practise scheduled. The show will be held at Watergap Stables. It's a nice atmosphere, the people are nice, and there are not too many entries so it doesn't take hours to go through one class. Rachel and I are taking Sandy and Liberty and are going to be riding in most of the events. The only classes we will not be in will be the jumping classes. Barrels, Poles, and 50 yd dash are three of the events I'm looking forward to the most and Rachie says that she is looking forward to the same ones.
It will be fun to have a sister there with her pony so we can hangout and ride together in between classes and not have to keep swapping riders.

I will be taking my camera so I'll try to get a bunch of pictures and post them either Saturday night or Monday.
However our desktop is still acting up so I have to use either my mom's laptop or Patrick McFail and who knows how he will do with the size of my pictures.

Hello my very few readers!
Sorry for the absence but time flies when your.... doing something... slightly productive... anyway... Moving on.
This is basically going to be a long rambling post about just whatever I think of posting..
So here we go.

Rachel's pony is settling in nicely and has now taken the number two spot in the heard(of 3) and so poor Cheyenne is now the low horse on the horse totem pole. Rachel and I are excited because we have our first show on Saturday! YAY! And Liberty will be going with us :)
Sarah's birthday was today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SARAH!!!!!! She is very excited because she got her very own, amazing, wonderful, out of tune violin! along with a fun day at Grandma & Grandpa's house. Swimming, Playing with friends and having tea and cupcakes are only a few of the amazing services offered at Camp Geezer...
Then this evening the ladies of our church(or several of them) went out to Angela's Cafe to celebrate the young women who have recently either graduated or turned 16. Congratulations and Happy Birthday! After our meal we older, wiser, all knowing women shared some of our very good advice and offered our wonderful counsel to the lovely young ladies free of charge ;)

Our family desktop computer has been having mental problems. It has this habit of just shutting off no matter what you are doing with/to it... so the first bit of this post was done on that then I had to pull out Patrick McFail. He is a very old Microsoft Windows 98 laptop that a friend gave us a few years ago. His copyright is dated at 1985-1999. His battery has long been dead and will not charge so you have to have him plugged in. He recently has been an avid dust collector in my room and is very useful for just about... Nothing...

Anyway I hope you are all having a great summer and enjoying the heat or lack there of :)

Pony Pictures

Rachel's getting a pony! The pony is a 7-8 year old shetland mare and stands about 13 hands(ish) . She's so cute(and smart)!

We went to see her 1-2 weeks ago and worked her for about 3 and a half hours.

Her name, as of right now, is Little Horse. Her current owners bought her about 5 years ago and when

they asked if she had a name the man who owned her said he just called her "Little Horse". They said they had planned on changing it but the name stuck.
We are thinking she will need a new name. My mom and grandma think we should name her "Pippa". Please feel free to leave any name suggestions in the comments. I'm not sure she looks like a Pippa...

This was at the end of the three hours and after a trail ride/hike.

Rachel had so much fun riding her! In almost every picture she was smiling!

Rachel was very happy she didn't need a mounting block to get on bareback.

One thing I failed to mention was that she is 4 hours away! So we will be borrowing a friends' 12 passenger van so our whole family can go to get her. We will also be visiting my dad's Aunt who lives near Pittsburgh.

I'm very happy for Rachel she has been wanting a pony of her own for so long and now she will have one!

I'm also looking forward to being able to take grandpa for trail rides and have Rachel go as well.

Now that I have added way too many exclamation marks!!! And bored you to death with my random long run on sentences I will leave you to ponder what the meaning of what the word "hands" has to do with horses.

Yesterday Emma had this crazy idea that she would like to experiment with "Perm" Curlers.

Don't ask me why.

This is how many she had in her hair!

She decided next time she was not going to use the little gray ones in the front.

Her hair was in no hurry to dry and she was dying to see what it looked like.

So she used the air vent!

I was not going to be the one to tell her that the air was turned off.

Obviously someone told her...

And they are STILL not dry.

Yes I am still alive. Sorry about not posting for a while. I was having trouble with blogger. Now that I have all of that done Here are some pictures from several weeks ago when we went to a park with some friends.

Chelsea requested that I do a post about our fun trip so here it is!

Most of the pictures are from a hike that some of the teens went on.

Here are Emma and Chelsea posing as we where walking in the creek. The non-fun teens stayed on the bank and walked on dry ground...How boring.

This is Chelsea's "Hero" Pose in front of the Susquehanna river.

The non-fun teens decided that they wanted to go rock climbing. So being ever so kind and nice Chelsea, Jonathan and I followed... Well We found a better way... Well a less fun way but a "Safer" way. So this is Chelsea climbing up the cliff.

First Day of Spring!

Today as many of you know was the first day of spring.

This afternoon my Mom took us over to my Grandma and Grandpa's house.

Kyle has thrown up as well, Sarah is scared that she is going to start, and Emma is not feeling well at all. Rachel I think is fine(so far).

Yesterday Emma and I went with Mrs. K and her family to see the new Sight and Sound production of Joseph. It was very well done it is probably my favorite show they have done so far. The following are some of the pictures I took while we where on our way to the theater.

Today we went to Longwood Gardens. It was cold and windy but it is supposed to be the best day of the week so my parents decided to go today.

Here is one of the many Christmas trees they have decorated right now.

This is what you get when you say "Hey Sarah pose".

Hey Look another tree! It took forever to get a good shot of it because all the people are trying to get pictures of it.

In the conservatory they have a Music Room that they decorate each year.

This year it was amazing!

Here is one of the tables. I love the way they have them decorated!

At each end of the room they have these wreaths. One was above the fireplace and the other above one of the doors.

This is the meadow. My Dad, Emma, Rachel, Sarah and Kyle walked around it while my Mom and I went the the conservatory( I like our idea better).

This is Dad, Rachel and Sarah walking on a wall near one of the tree houses.

Here is one of the tree houses that Longwood built. They made four of them and each one is made from different types of wood they reclaimed or imported.

They are all built around the tree not in them so that they can be taken down and they won't hurt the tree.

This shot is looking down from the top of the "Birdhouse".

This is the Nature tree that our co-op decorated. We made a lot of little bundles of seed pods and other edible things for the birds and other wildlife.

The poor cat...it has to lay around all day(In the warm house) and have people pet it and scratch it. Yep it has a hard life.

Christmas Lights

On December 1st my family and our friends at Hospitality Lane went down to the Herr's potato chip factory to look at the lights. So here are some of the crazy and not so crazy pictures from our little trip.

Here are the Potato heads! I think it was a great idea(who ever it was) to make the bushes look like potatos

This is what you get when I discover how to set the shutter to 8 seconds and slowly turn the camera...

or shake the camera... this looks like a cell phone wallpaper.

I think I get bored just taking regular pictures of the lights so I started moving the camera a little more.

Okay the funny thing about these pictures is that the whole time we where in the car we where complaining about not being able to get a clear picture! And so we get out of the car in to the cold night air and this is what most of my pictures look like!

So these are some of the many pictures I took while in Nottingham at the Herr's potato chip factory.

Girls Day Out!

About two years ago Emma and I and some friends started going Christmas shopping together with our Grandma(we drag her with us). So this year we did a sleepover at Grandma and Grandpa's house too!

After we went shopping we went back to Grandma's and ate chips, pumpkin roll, and leftover Pizza. Then we did line dancing and watched "The Village" until after 1:00 am.

It was so much fun!!

Grandpa's Horse

About a year ago Sandy's pasture buddy was leaving and so our friends said they had a horse that we could use. Around that time we had been looking for a pony/horse that my Grandpa/Rachel/anyone who wanted to ride could use. And so a week later our friend brought over Cheyenne she is about 14.2 hands, 15 years old "Mutt". She is the only horse I have ever seen that could steal food from Sandy!

The best thing about Cheyenne was the fact that she was FREE!
